Javier Hernandez looks like he will no longer be a member of Manchester United next season.

According to reports, the team is looking to move him for Southampton's Nathaniel Clyne.

It is an interesting proposition for both sides. Clyne is a solid defender while Hernandez is a forward who should be able to score more than he has in recent years.

Southampton is offensively challenged with 44 goals on the year; an average of 1.375 goals per game. But the side has a terrific defense that has conceded less than one goal per game (22 goals against in 32 games!). Manchester United is a solid offensive club that has no need for Hernandez and could use a stabilizing force on defense.

On Southampton, Graziano Pelle is the leading scorer with nine goals in 32 appearances. In 2012-13, Chicharito put up 10 goals in 22 appearances (13 of them were as a substitute). He is still 26 and, with the proper opportunity, should be a 15-goal scorer, maybe even a 20-goal scorer if he reaches his potential. That would be a huge boost to the side.

Meanwhile, Clyne is third on Southampton in tackles per game, four in interceptions per game and fifth in clearances. On Manchester United, his 3.4 tackles per game would be first on the squad; his career-average of 2.8 would be third on the team in that department. His two interceptions per game would also be fourth on Manchester United.

So it is clear that Clyne would be an upgrade to United's lineup and at 24, he is expected to grow and develop. In time, he could be United's top defender. He is not a major driver of offense, but the team would get a huge boost from having him.

Meanwhile, Southampton would get some goalscoring to help it finally breakout among the elite teams in England.
