"Just Got Paid" singer Johnny Kemp died Thursday at the age of 55 while he was on vacation in Jamaica, TMZ reports.

The '80s singer, originally from the Bahamas, was found floating on a beach in Montego Bay but it is still unclear what the cause of death was.

Police say Kemp arrived in Jamaica on a cruise ship, according to The Associated Press.

He was supposed to be on the Caribbean cruise this week although there are no further details from the cruise company Kemp reportedly booked his trip with.

The "Just Got Paid" singer rose to fame in 1989 when his song was nominated for a Grammy Award in a category that included Bobby Brown and Luther Vandross. His "Just Got Paid" hit song was No. 1 on the United States Billboard R&B chart at the time of its release. He also performed at musical events across the U.S. in recent years.

Back in 2007, Kemp appeared on "Sweat Hotel Live," the 2007 Keith Sweat DVD.

Other known songs from Johnny Kemp include "Dancin' With Myself" and "Birthday Suit," according to The Wrap.

Kemp's MTV biography noted that he started singing in nightclubs when he was just 13 years old in his hometown of Nassau, Bahamas.

He moved to the U.S. when he was about 19 years old in 1979 and developed other talents as a dancer, songwriter and actor while residing in Harlem.

Last year around this time, Kemp went back home to the Bahamas for a funeral of one of his family members, according to The Bahamas Weekly. While back at home, he participated in a jam session with the new local band called "First Taste."

The new band ran by Nat Cambridge made their debut performance in Freeport, Grand Bahama Island last year in April.
