TLC Band: T-Boz Performs Acoustic Version of 'Waterfalls' at Sickle Cell Charity Concert
Tionne "T-Boz" Watkins recently hosted and performed at a Sickle Cell Charity Concert on Sunday, April 19, at the Grammy Museum at LA Live in Los Angeles, Perez Hilton reports.
Watkins performed a soulful acoustic version of her TLC hit "Waterfalls" during the event. All proceeds from the night went to the Sickle Cell Foundation.
The concert, which was titled "T-Boz and Friends Unplugged" also featured special performances by Raphael Saadiq, Faith Evans, and Kat Graham, MadameNoire reports.
In addition to selling tickets for the concert via its website, Watkins also created a Chideo page for fans to donate and purchase tickets to the event. Some ticket packages included special prizes and awards for fans. MadameNoire reports that tickets for the charity concert ranged from $10 for access to a live stream to $199, which granted fans priority seating in the first few rows of the venue along with a meet-and-greet with Watkins.
Watkins created the charity events to raise awareness on the disease that she's been living with since she was 7 years old, according to Perez Hilton.
Watkins was diagnosed with sickle cell anemia at the tender age of 7 and was told that she was not able to have children and not expected to live long.
But Watkins has defied the odds and is 44 years old with a 14-year-old daughter.
Watkins recently spoke with Eurweb about the details behind putting together the concert and why she chose to donate to the Sickle Cell Foundation.
"I love the work that they do and I know the money goes to a good cause," she said about the foundation. "It helps children and parents ... It goes to a lot of things that people may not think about unless they're ill."
Watkins also gushed over her performance with Raphael Saadiq at the charity event.
"I told him [Saadiq], 'When I had the dream, I saw you next to me holding a bass,'" she said. "So, we're making my dream come true."
