Discover Card & iPhone 6: US Customers Can Make Contactless Payments
Discover announced Monday that it started an agreement with iPhone 6 where card members in the United States will be able to make contactless payments in participant stores, Yahoo! Finance reports.
Members could make payments through Apple Pay, which is a safe and easy way to pay with an iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus and the Apple Watch.
"As the mobile payments landscape matures, Discover remains committed to giving card members secure options for using their cards and mobile devices," said Diane Offereins, Discover's president of payment services. "Discover's focus on simplicity and value for our card members aligns well with the way Apple Pay makes purchases easy and convenient."
Best Buy is offering Apple Pay in-app and will offer it in stores later this year, according to Barron's Blog.
Discover card members could also make payments through Apple Pay with iPad Air 2 and iPad mini 3.
For safety reasons, card numbers are not stored on Apple servers or on the device being used to make payments. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned to each user and stored in a safe element in each device.
Credit card members will continue to have their same benefits. Discover Debit issuers will also be able to use Apple Pay as part of the agreement.
Apple CEO Tim Cook talked about some of Apple's major accomplishments in a conference call saying that unit sales are up 63 percent in emerging markets.
"Today, we're announcing another significant update to our capital returns program, expanding its size to $200 billion through March of 2017 to express our strong confidence in Apple's future," Cook said.
He added the Apple ecosystem continues to grow while the company sees great momentum in Apple Pay.
Discover is one of the most recognized brands and one of the largest card issuers in the U.S.
