Enrique Iglesias presented a 23-year-old tenor saxophone student from Mexico City with a $200,000 music scholarship Wednesday, according to a press release.

The Enrique Iglesias Scholarship, presented by the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation, will allow the student to continue studying music at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.

Silviana Itzel Salinas-Reyna, who was chosen by the foundation's Scholarship Committee, accepted the scholarship along with Iglesias Wednesday at a special presentation at the Ritz Carlton South Beach in Miami, Florida. The committee judged a highly competitive pool of contestants before choosing Salinas-Reyna as the winner.

We are extremely proud and thrilled to grant Salinas-Reyna the opportunity to pursue her musical dreams," said Manolo Diaz, Vice President of the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation. "She is remarkably gifted and we look forward to seeing her career flourish. We thank Enrique Iglesias and Berklee College of Music for their support with this, our first international scholarship."

Iglesias congratulated Salinas-Reyna on his Instagram page and posted a picture of the two.

"Congratulations to @Itzelsalinasreyna for winning the #EnriqueIglesiasScholarship! I wish you all the best during your time at Berklee College of Music!" he said.

"It is an honor and a privilege to be part of this initiative. To support new talent is personally rewarding," Iglesias said. "When you are passionate about music and making it a career, your dream is to learn from one of the best institutions. And Berklee is that university and financial strain should not be a barrier. I'm so proud and humbled to be in a position where I can help and wish her the best of luck."

Salinas-Reyna will begin her studies this fall. She will be awarded $50,000 in tuition assistance each year for four years from the Latin Grammy Cultural Foundation to pay for her education at Berklee College of Music.

Salinas-Reyna will be required to meet the standards of excellence by the Foundation and the music institution. She will also be required to maintain a 3.5 grade point average. Without the scholarship, Salinas-Reyna would not have been able to afford an education at Berklee College of Music.

Students from 24 different countries applied for the scholarship that accepted applications between March 16 and April 10.

Iglesias, who is nominated for a few categories for the Latin Billboard Awards, also shared a throwback picture of himself as a young boy. In the image, he is dressed up and smiling.
