Floyd Mayweather Secret to Being Undefeated: He Controls Every Fight
Floyd "Money" Mayweather won what was dubbed the fight of the century against Manny Pacquiao because he controlled the fight.
Mayweather had the odds against him in Saturday night's fight with most bets on Pacman. Yet, as he does with all his fights, the champion controlled the fight and won the belt.
No one has really been able to hit Mayweather in his nearly two-decade long fighting career, Yahoo! Sports reports. He remains undefeated.
The champion won the mega fight by unanimous decision at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, 118-110, 116-112 and 116-112.
"Manny Pacquiao is a tough competitor," Mayweather said after the fight. "My dad [and trainer] wanted me to do more. He's a very awkward fighter. I had to take my time and watch him very close."
Some may have called last night's battle a boring fight but Mayweather produces winning results, not exciting offenses. Mayweather fights with his head and just a few rounds in, he figured Pacquiao out.
"I thought I caught him many more times than he hit me," Pacquiao said after the fight. Fans of the Filipino fighter and activist also may think that he won.
"I was never hurt," Pacquiao said. "Very surprised by the score."
Even if he doesn't feel that he was hurt, Mayweather dictated the fight. Pacqauiao was able to manage 40 punches against Mayweather. In previous fights, the Filipino fighter was able to get more than 1,000 hits.
"All of Pacquiao's tactical stuff, you can't do all those things with Floyd that you can do with other fighters," Mayweather said. "I wasn't getting hit by a lot of shots unless I sat there in the pocket."
Following the battle, Mayweather said he is fighting again in September before he retires. Will he go out undefeated?
