Cinco de Mayo is here. And other than that moment of pride every Mexican-American can feel about not being under French rule, it is officially time to have some fun with all your freedom.

As far away as New York is from the border, you really wouldn’t know it by all the ways to celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

Perhaps the best way to incorporate a bit of celebration into your life might be to make Cinco de Mayo part of your mealtime. Here are five ways to celebrate with food.

2. Over at the El Vez, patrons can experience a full nine-woman band and food-and-drink specials that go on all day.

3. At Maya on Cinco de Mayo, the upscale Mexican restaurant is offering something it calls the “Bottomless Margarita Brunch.” For $43 you can celebrate with endless shared plates at brunch as well as cocktails. And every mother that comes in gets a complimentary rose.

4. Crema Restaurante, the Mexican restaurant known for its French-styled techniques, will offer a five-hour extended happy hour from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. in honor of the holida.

5. And at Besito, you can indulge in a Patron Tequila Tasting event that goes on from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Customers will also be happy to know that part of their bills will actually go to help out Mexico through Besito’s program, which provides meals to children in that country.
