Disney has announced that it will release the official merchandise for "Star Wars Episode VII" in September.

In anticipation for the release of the highly anticipated film, the studio announced that the merchandise is set to land in stores Sept. 4.

The event will be called "Force Friday" and Disney stores and major retailers are set to open at 12:01 a.m. on Sept. 4. The products that will be unveiled include books, toys, comics, collectibles, apps, ebooks, apparel and more. The products will also be available online.

Josh Silverman, executive vice president, global licensing at Disney Consumer Products said, "Every lightsaber, every action figure, every LEGO set tells a story for generations of 'Star Wars' fans, and this global event is a celebration of those stories. We're excited to be part of the countdown to this enormous movie moment."

"Star Wars" has been a phenomenon for years and the merchandising was one of the key elements that made the franchise unique and a billion dollar franchise. With new technology and social media Disney is encouraging buyers to document their experiences of the day on social media with the hashtags #ForceFriday and #MidnightMadness.

With the merchandise coming out three months before the release and a new feature on Vanity Fair revealing new images of characters, Disney is preparing a huge marketing campaign that will likely lead up to a record breaking box office. After this weekend's "Avengers: Age of Ultron" release, analysts are already estimating that "Star Wars Episode VII" will likely break the record for biggest opening weekend.

The new film stars Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill. No plot has been revealed, but an early synopsis indicates that the film will take place years after "Star Wars Episode VI: Return of the Jedi."

"The Force Awakens" is set to open on Dec. 18.
