CW Canceled or Renewed: The Messengers Will Not Get a Season 2, iZombie Renewed
In today's cutthroat television market, TV shows are axed just as quickly as they're born. Buzzfeed reports that "The Messengers" has been canceled.
According to TVLine, "The Messengers" debuted on the CW on April 17 and drew in approximately 1.2 million viewers, which gave it a 0.3 rating. That share of the audience on a broadcast network is typically very low, but on a cable network, it might be acceptable.
But today, the big broadcast networks are not just competing with cable anymore; they are also competing with streaming on-demand-services. That means if you do not bring in the viewers, you get the boot.
So with lower than expected ratings for the show and no apparent upward momentum, this showed has been canceled by the CW network. This, of course, will leave those few dedicated viewers to wonder about the progress of the plotlines that they got so involved with.
For some dramas and sitcoms, the stories are all self-contained. That means that the story for each episode is both introduced and concluded in the same episode. But "The Messengers" had a progressive storyline that involved many characters, which were angels and even the devil himself.
The story was progressing to the point where they were about to locate the Four Horseman of the Apocalypse, but now that it has been canceled, viewers may never know what happened to them.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the series only got to air three of its episodes before the show was cut. Although the decision was made to axe the show, the network will still air the remaining episodes but because the second season will not happen, there may be some unanswered questions.
News of the cancellation comes after the CW also cut "Hart of Dixie." But in better news, "iZombie" has been renewed for a second season, and there has also been a "Flash" and "Arrow" spinoff picked up titled "DC's Legends of Tomorrow."
