Amir Khan and Chris Algieri will collide on Friday at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, and the two fighters have a common goal: get a shot against Floyd Mayweather Jr.

Algieri, who is coming off a humiliating loss to Manny Pacquiao in their welterweight title fight last year, said he is eager to prove that he belongs to the elite group of boxers despite being manhandled by the Filipino boxing icon.

The 31-year-old former world champion, who holds a 20-1 record with eight knockouts, said that he will look to prove his doubters wrong on Friday and also admitted that he wants to win to get a chance to face Mayweather, who will reportedly make his farewell fight in September.

"We're all fighting for a shot at Mayweather," Algieri said via BoxingScene. "He's the best in the world. Whether you're fighting just for money or you're fighting for the competition of it all, he's the one."

On the other hand, Khan said that he thinks he deserves to get a big-money fight later this year. While he did not specifically mention Mayweather, Khan made it no secret in previous interviews that facing the unbeaten world champion is his ultimate goal.

Khan, who holds a 30-3 record with 19 knockout wins, almost got a shot against Mayweather last year before the reigning pound-for-pound king opted to face Marcos Maidana twice. He also lobbied for the fight earlier this year, but Mayweather decided to face Pacquiao earlier this month.

But when asked about facing Mayweather or a big-money fight later this year, Khan said that he will not think of it until after his fight against Algieri on Friday. The Bolton, England native insisted that he is focused on his showdown with Algieri, who he thinks is a dangerous opponent.

"I've made that mistake before in boxing, when you look past fights, but I ain't looking past this fight," Algieri said. "Everywhere I go, people ask me, 'what about Mayweather? What about Pacquiao?' I'm not looking at them guys. The guy I'm fighting, the guy I've been working on, the techniques I've been working on is to beat Chris Algieri."

Khan, a former junior welterweight world champion, is coming off a lopsided unanimous decision win against Devon Alexander in December. The Briton also scored a dominating win against Luis Collazo in May last year.
