Amir Khan called out Floyd Mayweather Jr. after the Briton scored a unanimous decision win against Chris Algieri on Friday night at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Khan, who has now won in his last five fights by unanimous decision, said after the fight that he wants to face Mayweather, who is planning to fight again in September.

The 28-year-old superstar said that he thinks he deserves a shot against Mayweather, the reigning World Boxing Council welterweight champion, because he is the number one contender for the title.

"Amir Khan wants to fight Floyd Mayweather," Khan said in a post-fight interview. "I want that next. I'm number one World Boxing Council. He's the champion. So let's make it happen."

Khan, who improved his record to 31-3 with 19 knockout victories, was considered favorite to land a bout against Mayweather in May last year, but the reigning pound-for-pound king decided to face Marcos Maidana, who eventually got a rematch in September after an impressive performance in the first fight.

The Bolton, England native also lobbied for a fight against Mayweather earlier this year and tried to setup a meeting with the unbeaten world champion, but "Money" eventually decided to face Manny Pacquiao, who he defeated via unanimous decision in their record-setting fight earlier this month.

While Khan feels he deserves a shot against Mayweather, there are still questions whether or not he performed well enough to earn his dream bout.

Algieri, who absorbed his second defeat in 22 professional fights, felt that he did enough to win against Khan, who was rocked by a solid right from the New York native in the eighth round of the fight.

"I was confident that I had won, but I thought it was gonna be close just because of the styles," Algieri told BoxingScene. "Amir is very good at taking rounds, even rounds where he got hurt and rounds where he got cracked. He's good at being shifty. He's a cagey fighter. And we've seen that throughout his career. He's very good at winning rounds."

Mayweather, who holds a perfect 48-0 record with 26 knockout victories, has yet to talk about his next fight, but previous reports indicated that his bout in September could be his last before he hangs up his gloves.
