Mexico vs Peru: International Soccer Friendly Schedule, Stream, Predictions & Preview
An incredible summer of soccer is on its way for the Western hemisphere. Not only is the 2015 FIFA World Cup and Gold Cup approaching, but the Copa America is nearing as well. Both Mexico and Peru will be competing in the 2015 Copa America, so they are looking to get in as much practice as possible.
Mexico and Peru will face off on Wednesday in an international friendly.
Mexico (22)
Mexico has a huge summer ahead. Not only will Miguel Herrera's squad be participating in the Copa America, but they will look to win another Gold Cup as well. The Mexican National Team is currently ranked No. 22 in the world having successfully defeated Guatemala in their last international friendly.
Most likely Jose de Jesus Corona will get the start in net for Mexico instead of Guillermo Ochoa. Mexico's roster is expected to consists of Jose de Jesus Corona, Paul Aguilar, Jorge Torres Nilo, Diego Reyes, Hugo Ayala, Julio Dominguez, Jonathan dos Santos, Javier Guemez, Jurgen Damm, Jesus Duenas, Javier Hernandez, Raul Jimenez and Eduardo Herrera.
The Copa America begins June 11, however, Mexico doesn't plan on taking any long breaks. On Sunday, June 7 Mexico is scheduled to face the Neymar-led Brazil squad. Mexico has the all-time win advantage over Peru, however it was Peru that defeated Mexico in the 2011 Copa America in a Group C game.
Peru (63)
Peru doesn't have very high expectations this summer considering they're ranked No. 63 in the world, and No. 6 in CONMEBOL. Peru has won two Copa America championships in the past, and they have been placed in Group C this year, the "group of death."
Peru will be facing elite squads in Group C at the Copa America consisting of Brazil, Colombia and Venezuela. In Peru's last international friendly, they lost to Venezuela. If Peru can somehow make it out of that group, it would be an incredible achievement.
Just like Mexico, Peru will be starting their backup goalkeeper. Peru's starting squad for Wednesday night is expected to consist of Diego Penny, Luis Advincula, Christian Ramos, Carlos Zambrano, Hansell Riojas, Juan Manuel Vargas, Carlos Lobaton, Edwin Retamoso, Carlos Ascues, Claudio Pizarro, Paolo Guerrero, Yordy Reyna, Jefferson Farfan, Christian Cueva and Joel Sanchez.
This is Peru's last international friendly game before they play Brazil at the Copa America on June 14 in Chile.
Schedule, Where to Watch
Mexico and Peru will play each other on Wednesday, June 3 at 9 p.m. EST on ESPNEWS. The game will be played at the Estadio Nacional in Lima, Peru. You can watch a live game stream here.
Prediction
There's not too much to expect from this game as far as the winner because so many starting players won't be on the field. This exhibition game is more about executing plays and getting warmed up for a huge tournament. Mexico has a strong squad, but Peru has home field advantage.
Mexico and Peru draw, 3-3
