Soccer Transfer Rumors: Liverpool's Raheem Sterling Open To Move To Manchester United
If all else goes according to plan, then Raheem Sterling might find himself in another Premier League club next season. That is, if Liverpool will be open to see past its rivalry with Manchester United.
Louis Van Gaal is reportedly interested in getting the 20-year-old for his pace and ability to open the defense and create scoring opportunities. According to The Mirror, the Dutch manager will make a £25-million offer to Liverpool to get the young player for their summer transfer.
The Guardian reported that Sterling will fit well into the Dutch manager's preferred style of formation, which is 4-3-3. The Jamaican native has shown flexibility in whatever position he is placed in that Van Gaal is keen to have and develop for Manchester United.
Will Sterling stay, or will he go?
Sterling's agent Aidy Ward recently revealed that the player is not interested in signing another deal with Liverpool even if he was offered $1.4 million a week.
"He is definitely not signing," Ward told the London Evening Standard. "He's not signing for £700, £800, £900 thousand a week. He is not signing."
Ward, Sterling and Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers were supposed to meet on May 22, London Evening Standard added, to explain Sterling's desire to transfer to another club even if his contract still has two years to go and the current negotiations for an extension reached an impasse. It is unknown whether the meeting pushed through.
'Not going anywhere'
In April, Rodgers already said that his club will not sell Sterling in the summer transfer window.
"Concentration should be on his football. If his ambition is to win trophies that's aligned with what we do here," the manager told ESPN FC. "Raheem has two-and-a-half years left on his deal and he's not going anywhere in the summer," he added.
Rodgers also noted that money from a possible transfer is not the concern of Liverpool at the moment.
"If the club don't want to sell, they won't sell. It's as simple as that. Money has never been the objective here for the club," he added.
Sterling has expressed his desire to move to a bigger club as he felt the transfer will increase his chances of winning trophies and awards. He recently told BBC Sport that he turned down a £100,000-a-week Liverpool deal because "It's not about the money at all."
