It seems like everyone wants to spook themselves lately. The recent "supernatural phenomenon," the CharlieCharlieChallenge, has swarmed the Internet and reportedly sent four Colombian students to the emergency room with cases of "mass hysteria."

In the Dominican Republic, where the video went viral and "where voodoo black magic is common," has been subjected to what's been described as a "satanic craze."

While not everyone is trying to summon "a Mexican demon with two pencils balanced on a piece of paper, like a modern version of the ouija board," the "spirit-summoning game" (also dubbed the "Charlie Charlie") brings to light the whether or not the supernatural is fact or fiction and what lengths people will go to try and channel the dead.

Latin Post spoke with "Insidious: Chapter 3" stars Dermot Mulroney and Stephanie Scott who play father and daughter in the prequel of the "Insidious" saga. Let's just say they aren't taking any chances when it comes to channeling the dead -- especially after being on the set of the scary paranormal thriller!

"I definitely found it interesting and I have always had a fascination with the paranormal," Scott said. "I was infatuated with horror and have visited haunted houses." Yet, at the same time, the impressionable actress said: "I went to a physic and he told me to never to use one (referring to a ouija board)."

Unlike his character, Mulroney added that he's never experienced paranormal activity and poked fun of the idea of channeling the dead, saying: "If you look at the side of the box of a ouija board it does say Milton Bradley on it," he laughed.

Nonetheless, the on-screen father-and-daughter duo are indeed fans of the horror genre and were thrilled to be a part of the hugely popular "Insidious" saga.

Reflecting on past horror favorite flicks, Mulroney said: "For me it would definitely be the 'Exorcist.' It was the first movie that I saw that really freaked me out. The two other favorites of mine are 'The Omen,' the first one (1976 version starring Gregory Peck), and 'Halloween' with Jamie Lee Curtis."

Mulroney and Scott recalled one of the most frightening and jarring scenes in "Insidious: Chapter 3" when Scott, who's injured and in a cast, becomes possessed by a demon. She stands up, breaks out of the cast and comes at her father with a box cutter.

"I like it when she comes at me with the box cutter," Mulroney explained. "It helps set up the whole movie in a very nuanced way. Honestly, I think that is going to withstand the test of time that scene like when Linda Blair's head turned around (in the Exorcist)."

Mulroney also recalled the sinister little boy who was possessed named Damien in "The Omen."

"That is a classic evil character that has ever been seen on screen. In ours, ('Insidious: Chapter 3') our guy (a demon) will hold it with Freddy, Damien in 'The Omen,' just because it's not just a ghost that's there to scare you. He's here to kill your daughter and he means business," Mulroney added.

Mulroney and Scott had the privilege of working with the 'Godmother of Horror,' Lin Shaye, who has starred in the "Insidious" trilogy as Elise Rainier.

"It was really cool for me. I have worked with a couple of these actors from a generation ahead of me that had that classical training at a very specific place -- at The Actor's Studio," Mulroney said. "She's everything in one person. She's a trained classical actor and yet she's best known for roles in 'There's Something About Mary' and 'Freddy' ('A Nightmare on Elm Street')," among others.

"She can do it all. I saw an actor, not only in her element, but loving every minute of it. It was so inspiring to see," Mulroney added. "She brought all of that enthusiasm and turned it to these intensity on screen that is just palpable. The story revolves around her... I couldn't say enough; it was a privilege. These (films) have it be configured in such a way that the 'Godmother of Horror' is and alive and well, we go back in time. ... Lin Shaye is back and she means business!"

From the producers of "The Purge" and "Sinister" comes a new chapter in the terrifying horror series, "Insidious: Chapter 3." The chilling prequel is written and directed by franchise co-creator Leigh Whannell, who tests the limits of human versus the supernatural world.

"It really was a significant and new experience for me," Mulroney said. "I couldn't have asked for it to be a better entre into the genre than to work with Leigh Whannell who knows these films and the classic films of this genre. He knows them inside and out and it shows in every frame of the movie."

"Set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.

"Quinn Brenner (Scott) seems to lead a normal teenager life, what with a crush on her neighbor Hector and some worries about getting into a theater arts-based school. Yet, she is suffering from the loss of her mother and is in store for a lot more challenges that will test her emotionally, physically and spiritually."

"I think it was really cool to make it an origin story, which is the beginning of the franchise," Scott said. "I am so grateful to have been a part of it. It was so fun and truly terrifying."

"My Best Friend's Wedding" and "About Schmidt" actor Mulroney plays Quinn's father and is also mourning the loss of his wife and is struggling with raising two children on his own.

In addition to Shaye, Scott and Mulroney, the cast of "Insidious: Chapter 3" includes Angus Sampson, Whannell and Hayley Kiyoko.
