Bethesda Release News: Developer Tease New 'Doom' Release Date & 'Fallout Shelter' Game, 'Eldar Scrolls' Card Game
Maryland-based publisher Bethesda Softworks on Sunday delighted the video-game universe with some key announcements ahead of this year's Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is set to kick off on June 16 in Los Angeles, BGR reported.
Gamers took note of the company's plans to release a new version of "Doom" in the spring of 2016 -- the first revival of the classic first-person shooter in more than 10 years. The latest installment of the science-fiction game, expected to be "ridiculously gory," will feature a multiplayer component, the Verge noted.
"Bethesda made an effort to balance the game's new graphics ... with old-school touches, which effectively means more detailed, quasi-realistic ways to tear inhuman flesh apart with old standby weapons like the chainsaw and super shotgun," the magazine detailed.
Even more "hyped" than "Doom," however, is Bethesda's fourth installment of the "Fallout" series, which is set to hit stores on Nov. 10. And for those who need some distraction to bridge the time until the (now official) release date, the publisher is offering "Fallout Shelter" free for iOS.
The game "isn't even remotely close to providing the kind of action 'Fallout 4' will offer," BGR warned, but it is still "pretty cute," the Verge encouraged.
"You're the overseer of your own post-apocalyptic vault, responsible for keeping its inhabitants happy and reproductively successful," the magazine said about the freebie. "Given that it's essentially advertising for a full-cost AAA title, Bethesda can avoid the paywalls that plague some free-to-play games," the Verge lauded.
Bethesda also revealed that it is creating a sequel to the 2012 action-adventure title "Dishonored," though details about the game remained scarce, according to BGR. "All we know right now is that ... it'll allow you to switch back and forth between playing as Corvo Attano, the main character from the original, and heir to the throne of the Isles, Emily Kaldwin."
Finally, Bethesda had some news for fans who want to spend some time away from the screen: There will soon be an "Eldar Scrolls" card game that plays tribute to the series of action role-playing fantasy titles, the website detailed.
