Rockstar Games has finally released its Grand Theft Auto Online update that aims to prevents cheats, glitches and bugs that give players unlimited and unfair amounts of GTA$.

The update came today after a maintenance period temporarily shut down the online version of Grand Theft Auto V.

"We will continue to issue title updates on an ongoing basis to counter the negative impact this has had on gameplay, and ... we are removing the counterfeit GTA$ from the game's economy," Rockstar Games said via its Newswire page.

In addition to taking unlimited money away from sneaky players, Rockstar Games will be punishing those who think they can get away with cheating in a game based on robbing, stealing and other society-cheating crimes. Punishments include being sent to cheater pools, where gamers cannot access the game, and being banned from Grand Theft Auto Online, all at Rockstar Games' "discretion."

The game developer is also asking other gamers for help in identifying those who manipulate the game to get undeserved cash.

"Should you ever encounter someone in GTA Online that appears to be taking advantage of exploits in your session, we ask that you alert us directly via the in-game reporting functionality," Rockstar Games said.

Rockstar Games has consistently clarified that gamers who have earned massive wealth without cheats will not be penalized. Those who have spent modded cash, killed people with billion dollar bounties and received money from hackers were said to be exempt.

"As stated, if you were not cheating/modding you have nothing to worry about..." Rockstar Support said via Twitter in December. "When we separate our wrongdoers, our focus is on cheaters and modders..."

Still, some gamers are already complaining about the anti-cheating update.

"Rockstar, the modded money was your own fault ultimately," I_Jeremiah_I said on the Newswire page. "Players who did not cheat but received modded money from random players have lost cash cards that they paid for."

"Legit or not the money was Ours not Yours!" MessiFinish added. "It was Your Fault that the game [had] bugs Not Ours! Your job was to deliver us a GAME FREE OF EXPLOITS AND BUGS that's what we paid for!"
