Upcoming Hollywood Sequels: Learn More About the Sequels to 'Zombieland,' 'Now You See Me' and 'The Incredibles'
In today's film industry, the word sequel is synonymous with money because lately they have been box-office gold for major movie studios.
A good example of this is the recent success of "Jurassic World," which opened to a whopping $208.8 million in the U.S. alone, according to Deadline. Another Universal film, "Furious 7," opened this year to $147 million, which is more than the original made during its entire run, according to Box Office Mojo.
And there are still more sequels in store.
In the horror genre, there is "Zombieland," but there's other things for audiences who are into a different kind of experience. Viewers can also expect another "The Incredibles" film and a follow-up to the 2013 film "Now You See Me," which will be starring "Harry Potter's" Daniel Radcliffe.
News of the "Zombieland 2" project started last year when Deadline reported that Sony Pictures hired Dave Callaham to pen the script, which is supervised by Ruben Fleischer. Fleischer will also be returning to direct the sequel to the 2009 hit that grossed more than $75 million in the U.S.
Zombies are in great demand because of AMC's "The Walking Dead," as well as the post-apocayptic worlds that have become popular lately.
"Now You See Me" was considered a surprise hit by many. The 2013 action-adventure film revolved around magic and suspense. The film grossed more than $117 million in the U.S. and became an instant sensation.
Screen Rant reports the sequel will feature Daniel Radcliffe, and Jesse Eisenberg, who was also in "Zombieland," will reprise his role. Lionsgate has fast-tracked production of the film and viewers can expect to see it next summer in 2016.
In an interview with Little White Lies, "The Incredibles" creator Brad Bird revealed that the sequel has been taking a long time to get out because he wants to create something that focuses less on the "fireballs" and special effects and focus more on making his audience care about the characters themselves.
