'X-Men: Apocalypse' News Update and Plot Spoilers: Hugh Jackman Returns to the Franchise
Hugh Jackman may be returning to "X-Men: Apocalypse" after all.
Jackman, who has played Wolverine for over 15 years, is now reported to be starring in the new film currently filming. His involvement was first reported on a post on Instagram by Kika NY, a hand-made leather goods designer based in Brooklyn, but the post was removed furthering the rumors. The Playlist, however, took down what the post said.
According to the source, it said, "We were just asked to make a special duffle backpack for Hugh Jackman who is filming the new X MEN movie in Montreal. We started sketching- The bag will be ready next week- we will keep you posted."
Jackman's involvement would be no surprise as Mystique abducts Wolverine at the end of the last film leaving room for the superhero to be involved in the new film. While there is no plot news, the new film includes the villain Apocalypse, who is noted as the most powerful villain in the X-Men world and it is expected that the film will be the biggest yet.
While Jackman is likely to be in the film, Ian McKellen recently confirmed that he won't be in the film as Magneto.
He said in an interview with Digital Spy, "I haven't heard [the rumors]. I don't think I am, no, no. They're currently making the film and I'm not in it."
This also means that Patrick Stewart is unlikely to return to the film as well as James Marsden or Halle Berry. It also suggests that the new film will only include the young incarnations of X-Men as the first two films have shown.
Channing Tatum, who was rumored at one point to be Gambit in the film, will not be part of the production and therefore the character will not make a cameo as early rumors suggested.
"X-Men: Apocalypse" is set to hit theaters on May 27, 2016 and is currently in production.
