Oliver Stone is well-known for dipping his directorial hat in the political arena for controversial issues around the country -- and the world.

The seasoned Hollywood director has taken those talents and made a new film about "The Most Wanted Man in the World" with his new film "Snowden," according to TV Guide.

The title character (Edward Snowden) of the film will be portrayed by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will be accompanied by the acting talents of Shailene Woodley ("The Fault in Our Stars"), Melissa Leo ("Treme"), Zachary Quinto ("Heroes," "Star Trek") Tom Wilkinson, Rys Ifans and Nicolas Cage ("Ghost Rider").

The all-star cast and story for the film has been scripted by Stone and Kieran Fitzgerald, which was based on the book "The Snowden Files: The Inside Story of the World's Most Wanted Man," according to E! News. The novel was written by Luke Harding and the film was also loosely based off of Anatoly Kucherena's "Time of the Octopus."

The trailer itself is somewhat vague, but the visuals accompanied by the musical score force the viewer into a haunted feeling of American benevolence. The title cards in the trailer reveal that Snowden was recruited by the army at a young age, then by the CIA and then by the NSA, before he exposed the extensive measures that they used behind the authority of the Patriot Act for domestic and international surveillance.

The preview is underscored by the song "This Little Light of Mine," which was recomposed as a haunting accompaniment to the trailer.

Stone's vision of the film may have been influenced in part by his vocal conspiracy theories that have played out in other films he's produced. But the essence of the trailer has been conveyed as that of a dark and poetic theme the movie intends to carry out.

The film is slated to be released on Christmas Day, Dec. 25, this year.
