Android Lollipop: When Is Each Device Getting the Update?
Android Lollipop has been out for quite a while, but some devices are still awaiting the update.
Depending on which Android device a user has, the update has either arrived or is coming soon, according to TechRadar.
The update to Android Lollipop comes with several improvements, including new visuals, faster performance and battery life improvements.
Owners of Nexus devices hold the advantage when it comes to operating system updates, they get the updates first. The Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 both came with Android Lollipop pre-installed. Additionally, the Nexus 5, Nexus 4, Nexus 7 WiFi (2012 and 2013 models) and Nexus 10 all have received the updates.
The HTC One M8 and HTC One M9 are still waiting to receive the update to Android Lollipop. They both should receive the update sometime in August.
"We will begin rolling out updates to the HTC One M8 and HTC One M7 in regions worldwide within 90 days of receiving final software from Google, followed shortly thereafter by other One family members and select devices."
It is expected that most HTC's made within the last 12-18 months will receive the update.
Samsung was able to have its Galaxy S6 and Galaxy S6 Edge smartphones come with Android 5.0 Lollipop. Now, Samsung wants its phones to be updated to the even newer Android Lollipop 5.1.1.
Unlocked Galaxy Note 4s devices can be upgraded to Lollipop 5.1.1 by connecting to a WiFi network and going to the settings menu to upgrade.
The upgrade to 5.1.1 should be coming soon for the Galaxy Note 4.
The Galaxy S5 should have received the Lollipop 5.0 upgrade by now, since it began its release in January.
The Galaxy S4 has started seeing its upgrade to Lollipop 5.0 in India and users in the U.S. should see it soon.
Older Samsung devices are unlikely to see the upgrade to Lollipop 5.0, including the Galaxy S3 and Note 2, according to The Inquirer.
Sony announced that the entire Xperia Z series will get the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop. The rollout will slowly reach all Xperia Z devices in the U.S. soon. Other Xperia devices, such as the T2 Ultra and C3, are expected to receive the update in the next few weeks.
LG users are expected to receive the update rather quickly. The update to Android 5.0 Lollipop on the LG G3 may already be out to most users, especially those that live in the U.K.
The LG G Pro 2 is the next device that is expected to receive the update to 5.0 Lollipop.
LG is working on getting the update to the older LG G2 device. Unlocked devices will get it first.
The recently released LG G4 already came with Android 5.1.0, but it could soon be updated to Android 5.1.1. If it does not receive the 5.1.1 update, it will wait until Android M is out.
