Bill Cosby Sex Assault Scandal: Comedian's Accusers Want Entire 2005 Settlement Deposition Released to Public
A Philadelphia woman who settled a 2005 sex assault case with Bill Cosby out of court has filed a motion seeking to have the entire deposition he gave back then released to the public.
According to CNN, attorneys for Andrea Constand filed for the motion on Wednesday, just hours after parts of it were publicly released revealing that Cosby admitted under oath that he has previously given women drugs so he could have sex with them.
In all, dozens of women have recently come forward to claim the famed comedian once drugged and sexually assaulted them over the years. The 77-year-old comedian has never faced prosecution in any of the cases and the statute of limitations for filing charges against him in most of them has expired.
In the case of Chloe Goins, however, she claims Cosby attacked her at the Playboy Mansion as recently as 2008 and met with Los Angeles police just last year to tell her story. Earlier this week, her attorney stressed he believes his client's case still falls within the statute of limitations.
"She was drugged," said attorney Spencer Kuvin. "She doesn't know what happened. She blacked out and woke up finding Mr. Cosby over her."
Later, Cosby's publicist said he has no plans to issue a statement regarding all the recent developments.
In her initial suit, Constand alleged Cosby gave her drugs that made her dizzy and she later woke up to find her bra undone and her clothes in disarray. Still, district attorney Bruce Castor said there was insufficient evidence to prosecute Cosby. Even Cosby's newly publicized civil deposition wouldn't be enough, he recently noted.
"Under Pennsylvania law, the statements of a suspect are not admisible until ... you can independently prove that a crime was committed," he said. "The basic problem always remained that we didn't have any forensics or anything to tell us what had happened because of the delay of a year between when the event occurred and when Andrea Constand came in to police."
In the wake of this week's news, many of Cosby's alleged victims have since indicated they now feel vindicated, including model and actress Beverly Johnson, who claims she was assaulted in the 1980s.
"The truth has no expiration date on it," she said.
