'Outlander' Season 2 News: New Season Will be More 'Voluptuous and Ostentatious,' Diana Gabaldon to be Involved
The cast and creators of “Outlander,” the time-travel series on Starz, were drinking whiskey and dishing about the upcoming season during a panel at Comic-Con International over the weekend.
Ron Moore, the series creator whose previous high-profile projects include work on “Star Trek” and the revamped “Battlestar Galactica,” was enthusiastic about what is in store for the sci-fi series, promising fans “new sets, a new show -- it’s going to be a whole new 'Outlander' this season.”
Diana Gabaldon, the author whose penchant for elements of romantic historical fiction with a speculative spin resulted in the intriguing source material for the series, said she would be writing her first episode for "Outlander" in the coming season.
When the 63-year-old author was asked if she knew how the series would end, she said she definitely did, and she has had the end in mind and on paper for a long time. As reported by Wired, her idea for the final scene of the last “Outlander” book came to her 15 years ago, and she wrote it down.
Sam Heughan, the 35-year-old Scottish actor who plays Jamie Fraser on the series, took a little time to gush about his co-star Caitriona Balfe: “I would do anything for you. She’s amazing.”
Heughan described the preview for the upcoming season that only those at the panel were privy to as “voluptuous and ostentatious.” One of the voluptuous and ostentatious things fans can look forward to will be the costume changes. As reported by E!, Balfe will be wearing what are described as "larger bum rolls."
Bumrolls were worn by women during the 18th century and earlier to increase the volume of their skirts. It is said the larger the bumroll, the more prestigious the person wearing it.
The second season of “Outlander” will air in 2016.
