Shia LaBeouf Retiring and Plagiarism: Shia LeBeouf Steals Soccer Great Eric Cantona's Quote, Storms Out of Press Conference
Shia LaBeouf has been working everyone's last nerve when it comes to his seeming inability to behave in a way that passes for "normal" by any standard. After admitting to plagiarism, he now upped the ante of annoying by storming out of a press release that promoted his latest movie in Berlin.
According to MTV News, LaBeouf was in Berlin promoting Lars von Trier's film, Nymphomaniac. Rather than be grateful that someone was willing to give him a job just playing pretend in front of the camera, LaBeouf showed up looking "dirty" and "disheveled." Ten minutes into the press conference, Shia was asked the first question of the night and responded with a weird non-sequitor: "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown into the sea. Thank you." He said this line VERY slowly -- almost as if he was drunk -- before he stormed out of the press conference.
Later on that day, according to Rolling Stone, Shia walked the red carpet for Nymphomaniac... wearing a paper bag over his head that read "I am not famous anymore." (For the record, this was another move that was plagiarized... The Unknown Comic was the first to originate the paper bag over his head, and he did it to much better effect than this temper tantrum being put forth by the former star of Even Stevens.)
LaBeouf made similar declarations (all in caps, of course) on his official Twitter account for the past month, in addition to his near-obsessive insistence that he was "retiring from public life."
In the words of the checkout girl at the Tesco in Britain: "You off, then? BYE!"
Of course, it could be possible -- however unlikely -- that LaBeouf is pulling a Joaquin Phoenix-like "publicity stunt," demonstrating a "meltdown" in order to promote a new film. (What is it with this kid stealing everyone else's moves?) That, however, would imply that LaBeouf has Oscar-worthy acting talent, which is a huge stretch of a claim.
