'The Vampire Diaries' Season 7 Spoilers: Michael Malarkey Says Enzo's 'Biggest Dilemma' Will Be Between Lily and Damon [Video]
Fans of "The Vampire Diaries" can look forward to seeing a lot more of Lily "Mama" Salvatore, her band of renegade heretics and Enzo when the vampire drama kicks off Season 7 this fall.
As viewers will recall, Damon and Stefan's long-lost mother resurrected in the latter half of Season 6 and reconnected with her heretic friends, which are vampires with witch powers.
Earlier this year, executive producer Caroline Dries revealed that Enzo will get caught in the middle of a war between Mama Salvatore and her sons.
"He's eventually going to have to choose a side," Dries told TVLine. "In some ways, he feels drawn to Lily; she turned him and she's the only real family he has. But he's also friends with Damon, so it's going to create an interesting dilemma, and whichever side he chooses will have serious ramifications."
Actor Michael Malarkey also opened up about what's coming for Enzo, telling BuddyTV at San Diego Comic-Con that his character's "big dilemma this season" will be choosing to align himself with Lily or his friend Damon.
"If he decides to choose Lily's side, it initially would feel like a good thing because he's kind of found his pack," said Malarkey. After living a life as an outcast, Enzo now wants a "community of people he can love and trust, and eat people with."
However, it could potentially backfire because he also has "loyalties to Damon," and choosing a path against Damon would lead to conflict.
Malarkey also teased that there will be a time jump involving Enzo's love life.
"We see him together with somebody, maybe somebody we know on the show," he said.
The actor added that Season 7 will include more killing and "heads will roll. There's full on war going on in Mystic Falls."
Although many fans were sad to see the show's leading actress, Nina Dobrev, leave the show last season, Malarkey said that her departure offered "a fantastic opportunity for the writers to revamp the show. No pun intended."
