Nick will face new challenges in Season 5 of "Grimm" as he copes with the death of his mother and girlfriend and prepares to become a father.

As fans may recall, the Season 4 finale ended with a shocking cliffhanger after Trubel killed Nick's girlfriend, Juliette, in order to save him. During the gripping scene, Nick was about to kill Juliette to avenge his mother's death. However, he was convicted by his love for Juliette and could not find the strength to kill her. That's when Trubel stepped in and fired two arrows into Juliette. After she was shot, Nick cradled his former lover in his arms and watched her die. It was also revealed that Adalind was pregnant with Nick's child.

While speaking at Comic-Con in San Diego earlier this summer, actor Silas Weir Mitchell opened about the direction the show, Nick's struggle to deal with his harsh reality and his own character, Monroe.

Mitchell started off by talking about Nick and Adalind's new baby.

"The baby is going to be have to be dealt with in some way," he said. "We're going to have to figure out what the hell the thing is, first of all," he added, noting that the baby will be a unique cross breed between a hexenbiest and a Grimm.

Mitchell also teased that "Orange Is the New Black" actress Elizabeth Rodriguez will reprise her role as FBI Agent Chavez in the new season and help push the show in a new direction.

At the same time, the show will also incorporate "old mythology that has been kind of let go, and we're going to get back to that," he said.

Meanwhile, Mitchell said that "Nick is in a really, really bad place" and on the "brink" of going off the deep end. As a result, Monroe will attempt "to help him through this time, mostly be keeping him from screwing up royally," he said.

Season 5 of "Grimm" will premiere on NBC on Oct. 30.
