“Outlander,” a time travel fantasy which was just given Entertainment Weekly’s award for Best Drama of 2015, has garnered some very interesting praise from Vanity Fair’s Richard Lawson, who called the show “the oddest, hardest-to-pin-down series currently airing.”

Fans who are anxious for Season 2 to start will have to brace themselves for some major changes as the set environment goes from dank and earthy to one of luxury.

In the storyline, Claire (Caitriona Balfe) and Jamie (Sam Heughan) have gone off to find safety in 18th century France.

"We felt a little bit of discomfort in the transition, because we were so used to playing in this gritty Scottish mud," Balfe told Blastr, "Everything was very muted with the wools. Now all of a sudden we're in these luxurious apartments and grand houses."

Show developer Ronald Moore spoke of how everything on the series was essentially going to be new, saying, "Every set, costume and prop [from Season 1] had to be set aside. Now it's a whole new series. We're going to Prague for the streets of Paris, but we're still doing most of the interiors on our soundstages. There are other locations in Scotland we'll use, like exterior home gardens. And there are some palaces in England that will be stand-ins for Versailles."

Speaking with Access Hollywood, Balfe, whose character is now pregnant, sounded enthused about what was going to happen in the new season, saying, “The sets are fantastic -- so rich and so lush and the costumes are incredible, but you know what I've been really enjoying is that Claire's pregnant and playing all of that -- what that brings up in her and about impending motherhood and everything.”

“It's just been a really, really fun, great material to work with," said the 35-year-old Irish actress.

“Outlander” returns to Starz in 2016.
