Aaron Hernandez was recently involved in a jailhouse brawl with another inmate at the Souza-Baranowski maximum security prison, where he is serving out his life sentence on murder charges.

Fox News reports authorities are still working to determine what precipitated the skirmish and who may have been responsible for setting it off. The station noted this marks at least the third time the former New England Patriots star tight end has been involved in a scuffle since being jailed in the 2013 execution-style killing of onetime associate Odin Lloyd.

Back in February, Hernandez was involved in an altercation with another inmate while he was being held in the Bristol County House of Correction. Roughly three months later, he was at the center of yet another dispute that became physical, when he allegedly served as the lookout for another inmate who confronted a third prisoner in his cell.

"It's not surprising from my perspective, he's facing a life sentence, he's going to have to create his own society within the prison setting," Bristol County Sheriff Tom Hodgson said back then.

Following the latter incident, Hernandez was reportedly placed in a special management section of the prison for an extended time.

The 25-year-old Hernandez was convicted in April of this year in the Lloyd slaying. Authorities have speculated he may have killed Lloyd because of his knowledge of other violent crimes he is alleged to have taken part in.

Hernandez also faces double murder charges stemming from a drive-by shooting outside a nightclub in downtown Boston in 2012. In that incident, authorities have alleged Hernandez opened fire on Safiro Furtado and Daniel de Abreu after one of them spilled a drink on him inside the club earlier in the evening and failed to apologize.

Hernandez has pleaded not guilty in that case, and trial is expected to start sometime later this year.
