On Aug. 24, Univision premiered its latest primetime telenovela with singer and actress Maite Perroni leading the cast.

Perroni is starring in "Antes Muerta que Lichita" as Lichita Gutiérrez, a young woman who works in an advertising agency and who is the constant focus of ridicule and doesn't get the respect she deserves from her coworkers.

The telenovela will follow Lichita as she makes her transformation into Alicia, a persona that works hard and behaves just as tough as her peers do to get what she wants and move forward in her career.

According to Trome, the premiere of the telenovela was a big win for Univision, which may have everything to do with Perroni playing the lead. The 32-year-old actress and singer rose to super stardom when she starred in "Rebelde" and later gained musical success as a member of the group RBD.

The Mexican actress, who has appeared in several telenovelas and who in 2009 was named "the new queen of the telenovelas" by Univision, became the first Latina to have a Barbie doll fashioned after her, reported Variety.

"Antes Muerta que Lichita" was created by the same team behind "La Fea Más Bella," "Que Pobres Tan Ricos" and "Por Ella Soy Eva."

Starring alongside Perroni are Arath De La Torre, from "Una Familia con suerte" and "La Fea Mas Bella," Eduardo Santamarina of "Marisol" and "Rubí" fame, as well as Silvia Pasquel, Chantal Andere, íngrid Martz, Manuel Ibañez and Sherlyn, whose previous work includes "Ugly Betty" and "Mujeres Asesinas."

Besides starring in "Antes Muerta que Lichita" and working on her second studio album, Perroni will be starring in a new film called "Regalo de Vida," which focuses on the subject of donating organs, reported People En Español

It's a story about love that invites you to reflect on the problems of donating organs," she said. "It is a plot that is very careful in all aspects.
