Samsung has finally unveiled its latest smartwatch offerings with its new Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic. While the company has only released specs and photos of the upcoming wrist gadgets, it is reported that the smartwatches will soon be available to consumers.

The new Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic feature a round shape, unlike their predecessors that opted to go for the rectangular shape that other smart watches don.

According to the official press statement released on the Korean company's website, the "versatile, circular design" is meant to make users access and personalize their use of the gadget better.

It also noted that the "unique rotating bezel, along with the Home and Back buttons ensures users will have a quicker, more precise" way of opening notifications and using the apps.

The smartwatches' screen is 1.2 inches in diameter, and the bracelet is around 11.4 millimeters in width, giving it a more elegant look as opposed to the wider and squarish Apple Watch, noted PC World.

The Gear S2 Classic comes with a black leather bracelet and black stainless steel case, giving it a more masculine look. On the other hand, the Gear S2 features a lighter color combination with silver case and white band option or a dark gray band to go with the dark gray case.

To access the control functions in the watch, Samsung added a rotating bezel ring on the face for easier operation.

Just like its other smartwatches, Samsung's S2 Gear Classic and S2 Gear will be powered by the Tizen operating system. While this will be good for promoting the said OS, some users might see it as a downside.

With the Tizen OS, users will be unable to take part in Google's Android Wear third-party apps, as reported by The Verge.

However, the Korean tech giant has assured that the watch will not lack in functionality with the built-in apps. Samsung has also stated that it is already looking into developers who can add more apps for the Gear S2 and Gear S2 Classic in the future.

Both will not have a 3G modem and can be used for a maximum of two to three days, depending on how they are utilized.

According to Samsung's CEO and Head of IT & Mobile Business JK Shin, the new devices are the result of the company's continuous work on improving their tech offerings.

"The Samsung Gear S2 reflects Samsung's most progressive innovation. It is the perfect complement for any occasion, easily taking you from day to night, from work to workout - and ensuring that you get more out of every moment in your day."
