New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith addressed the media for the first time since he broke his jaw after teammate IK Enemkpali punched him during an argument, as reported by ESPN.

Smith had no plans of filing charges against his former teammate. He also did not speak about the incident but said that he learned a valuable lesson.

"There's a lesson learned in every situation, good or bad. Obviously, I've learned something, but I don't want to keep talking about it," Smith said via ESPN. He declined any questions regarding the incident wherein Enemkpali punched him because of unpaid debt.

According to The New York Times, Smith did not answer if Enemkpali apologized to him directly after the incident, if he deserves any blame for the incident or if he regrets putting himself in the situation. "I just want to move on. That's what I've done," he stated.

"Things happen in life. Unfortunately, it happened to me, but I'm not going to hang my head. I'm not that type of guy. I'm not weak-hearted", Smith added via ESPN. The 24-year-old quarterback was also asked if he paid his $600 debt in airfare and limousine, which were the cause of their altercation.

"There's still an investigation being done, so it's not really important for me to say anything about it. That will clarify more things than anything," Smith answered.

The NFL is currently investigating the cause of the incident. Some of Enemkpali's friends believed that the defensive end felt "shamed and disrespected" by Smith, who refused to pay his debt.

According to The New York Times, Smith was supposed to attend Enemkpali's minicamp in Texas last July 11 but Smith did not inform Enemkpali that someone close to him got in an accident and he had to change his plans. Some eyewitnesses said that the quarterback provoked Enemkpali by shoving his finger on the defensive end's face during training camp. Enemkpali then punched Smith, leading to his release and a broken jaw.

The incident happened last Aug. 11 and Smith is out for the first four games of the season, as reported by NBC Sports. Backup Ryan Fitzpatrick is slated to start in his place while rookie Bryce Petty will be his backup. Coach Todd Bowles also said that Smith won't regain his starting job back after his recovery, saying via ESPN, "I can't think about hypothetical situations."

As for Enemkpali, he did not make the 53-man roster of the Buffalo Bills but was signed as a practice player, according to NFL.com.
