CW Orders ‘The Drop’ Drama About Electronic Dance Music
The CW is starting to become the network for youth of all ages, now putting in a series order for "The Drop."
The show is based on the bustling underground world of electronic dance music in Miami, according to Deadline.
This is not just a DJ and dance series though, as it chronicles the exploits of an underground DJ who is on the verge of ruin unless he can churn out a living for the genre that has yet to make him any real money.
His ray of sunshine will come in the form of a beautiful young protégé who also happens to be an African-American female, which is rare in the EDM world.
The gifted young lady shows the man that he can become more and find himself more successful should he help train her and fulfill his own legacy for the work that he has spent his life doing, even though it has brought him to the brink of total ruin.
The sexy and swinging new drama is expected to bring in new viewers for the genre, which is a rising star in the musical world already with many festivals dedicated to the loud sounds and incredible beats that play off of lasers and fabulous light shows.
The series hails from "Nashville" executive producer R.J. Cutler, DJ Steve Angello and CBS TV Studios. Writer and musician Kyle Jarrow is expected to pen the script and Cutler is expected to direct on the series.
The network has already tried its hand at an EDM drama before with Shane Brennan and DJ Tiesto, but it did not turn out the results they were looking for. It is now looking for a whole new direction with this new take on the genre and they are hoping to breakthrough to the younger audience with it.
There has been no word yet on when production will start for the series or when it will debut on the network.
