PSV Eindhoven star and Mexican team captain Andrés Guardado will be out for several weeks, after injuring his ankle during last week's game against Manchester United.

ESPN reports that the 28-year-old suffered damage to the ligaments in his left ankle and will miss 4-6 weeks. The injury occurred in the second half, after Manchester United defender Chris Smalling fouled Guardado. He was carted off the field.

The Mexican team captain will miss the CONCACAF Cup playoff against the United States due to the injury.

Guardado's team, PSV Eindhoven, tweeted out the news of his injury, which you can check out below:

In an interview with ESPN Deportes, PSV Eindhoven sporting director Marcel Brands expressed hope that Guardado's injury isn't serious and that he heals up quickly.

Brands said, "Initially we had hoped it would be an injury of two to three weeks, but it now looks like it could be six or seven weeks if it is worse than what we have seen up to this point."

Currently, PSV Eindhoven is fifth in the Dutch Eredivisie standings with a record of 3-1. They trail first place Ajax by five points.

Mexico and the United States will meet on Oct. 10 in a single game playoff to determine who will go on to play in the 2017 Confederations Cup. Guardado's relegation to the sidelines is a big blow to the Mexican team.

Guardado scored six goals and recorded two assists for Mexico at the 2015 CONCACAF Gold Cup, which Mexico won to set up the one-game playoff with the United States.

During his time with the PSV Eindhoven, Guardado has appeared in five games, and has zero goals and zero assists.
