Hayden Panettiere revealed her struggle with postpartum depression during her appearance on "Live! with Kelly and Michael" on Monday, Sept. 28.

The "Nashville" actress opened up about her own experience dealing with the distressing side effects that came after having her first child, Kaya, according to Us Weekly.

"I can very much relate. It's something a lot of women experience. When [you're told] about postpartum depression you think it's 'I feel negative feelings towards my child, I want to injure or hurt my child.' I've never, ever had those feelings," Panettiere said.

"Some women do. But you don't realize how broad of a spectrum you can really experience that on. It's something that needs to be talked about. Women need to know that they're not alone, and that it does heal."

The 26-year-old also mentioned her postpartum depression in her Us Weekly "25 Things You Don't Know About Me" list, reassuring other mothers who have suffered, "You're not alone or crazy, ladies!

"There's a lot of misunderstanding. There's a lot of people out there that think that it's not real, that it's not true. That it's something that's made up in their minds, that, 'Oh, it's hormones.' They brush it off," she said.

"It's something that's completely uncontrollable. It's really painful and it's really scary and women need a lot of support."

Panettiere's "Nashville" character Juliette Barnes, who is a new mom on the show, is also experiencing the effects of postpartum depression.

Despite the symptoms the actress went through after her pregnancy, she is looking forward to having more children in the future.

"I'm not going to speak too soon," Panettiere said. "One at a time. I mean, I would love it if Wlad figured out a way to get pregnant and he could have the baby. We would be going right now, no problem."

Panettiere welcomed daughter Kaya with her fiancé, boxer Wladimir Klitschko, in December 2014. The couple announced their engagement in October 2013. They began dating in 2009 after meeting through a mutual friend at a book party.
