The massively popular MMO game Minecraft has seemed to flip the internet on its head once again with the announcement of a "Story Mode" title.

The game has classically followed an open world style of gameplay, allowing players to mine, find rare items, and perform alchemy. However a story mode will find users instead following a linear style of gameplay that focuses largely on a certain cast of characters.

Minecraft: Story Mode will give players the choice to play as either a male or female protagonist. With their party members, players will traverse areas familiar to the Minecraft world in order to find the Order of the Stone. Depending on which sex the player picks, the main character will be voiced by either Patton Oswalt or Catherine Taber.

The new game will be helmed by Telltale Games and the first episode of a five-part series plans to drop on Oct. 13. It will also be available for download on all major platforms including PS4, Xbox One, Wii U, and of course PC.

It is believed the idea for the "Story Mode" standalone title was inspired by YouTube "let's player" Stampy Longhead, a longtime Minecraft fan. Viewers will recognize him for making his own Story Mode videos based on the original game, adding his own creativeness and quirkiness to the innovative MMO.

Despite the game's departure from its genre, some fans have expressed their high anticipation for the new game, while others are still skeptical.

The Twitter fanfare sees about 100 different tweets from users every hour as of Saturday regarding the upcoming title.
