Microsoft Surface Pro 4 Specs & Features: 'Smart Frame' Technology to Convince iPad Users To Switch To New Phablet?
Microsoft will stage a Windows 10 devices press event this Tuesday. Fans can expect the company to unveil the Lumia 950 and the Lumia 950 XL during the said event, together with the Band 2 and the Surface Pro 4.
Although much of the two new "Windows 10 Mobile" smartphones and the sports bracelet have been revealed online, new information on the Surface Pro 4 is still coming in. Now, a new rumor has suggested that the upcoming tablet/laptop hybrid will boast a feature that iPad users will drool over.
According to Arabic tech site W4pHub via Win Beta, the Surface Pro 4 will feature the new "Smart Frame" technology that lets Microsoft change the tablet's screen size depending on what it is being used for, desktop or tablet mode.
The tablet can alternate between 13-inch display when a keyboard attachment is fitted onto it, and 12-inch display when it is being used as a standalone device. "Smart Frame" will most probably shut off some pixels at the edge of the screen to switch between the different screen sizes.
The Surface Pro 4 is said to sport a "razor-thin" bezel, similar to the Dell XPS 13's screen. The design is in line with Microsoft reported plans to do away with bulky tablets in exchange for thinner and lighter offerings.
Meanwhile, sources told Gadgets NDTV that the Surface Pro 4 will come in two screen size variants. One will measure 12 inches while the other is pegged at 14 inches. The larger of the pair will have a 2160 x 1440 resolution display. However, there is no real proof to back the claim.
Other reported specs of the Surface Pro 4 include 16GB of RAM, 500GB of internal memory and a sixth generation Intel "Skylake" Core processor. The device is expected to be capable of supporting the older generation peripherals of the Surface Pro 3 from last year.
It can be remembered that the Washington-based tech giant's Surface tablets have been relatively stale in the sales department since the Microsoft Surface debut in Q4 2012. It wasn't until the release of the Surface Pro 3 in Q2 2014 that the company's faith in its tablet/laptop hybrid lineup started turning into profits. Only time will tell if the Surface Pro 4 will continue the company's successful run.
More details of the Surface Pro 4 and its new "Smart Frame" technology is expected to be officially revealed by Microsoft during its press event on Oct. 6.
