Once again, director John Hillcoat trains the spotlight on the darker side of the human spirit. His upcoming movie "Triple 9" is bloody, brutal and so star-studded that it can't help but dazzle despite the violent subject matter.

The red band trailer of "Triple 9" was released by Yahoo! recently, offering the first peek at the upcoming heist movie by the director of acclaimed films "The Road," "The Proposition" and "Lawless."

"You're job," Woody Harrelson's character intoned in the trailer. "Out-monster the monster."

Those words were a proper introduction to the next few monstrous video clips. The two-minute teaser did not hold back on the gore, from gunshots to the head to severed heads lined up on the hood of a car to a plastic bag of teeth. A haunting rendition of the children's song "This Little Piggy" rang ominously in the background, and famous faces flashed on the screen bloody and tortured.

"Triple 9" follows the story of a group of criminals and dirty cops conspiring to pull off a difficult heist by distracting the police force with the murder of a rookie officer.

The upcoming crime thriller will see many film and television favorites on the big screen including Casey Affleck ("Gone Baby Gone"), Chiwetel Ejiofor ("12 Years a Slave"), Kate Winslet ("Revolutionary Road"), Woody Harrelson ("True Detective"), Aaron Paul ("Breaking Bad"), Gal Gadot ("Fast and Furious"), Teresa Palmer ("Warm Bodies"), Anthony Mackie ("Avengers: Age of Ultron"), Clifton Collins Jr. ("Transcendence") and Norman Reedus ("Walking Dead").

This new Hillcoat film has been years in the making with several well-known names attached to it before the final cut including Shia LaBeouf and Charlie Hunnam. While working with a big group of Hollywood actors may seem daunting, the prospect of bringing together a number of talents is something that Hillcoat enjoys, according to a report from Wired back in 2012.

"I love working with ensemble groups of actors," Hillcoat admitted during the interview. "When we're in these extreme locations doing this stuff, the cast becomes like a family. I think that's kind of why we all do it."

The director, known for his gritty films that are fearless in exploring extreme situations, also explained his choice of subject matter saying, "I think [those extreme situations] bring out the best and the very worst in people. To me, it just reveals what we're really about."

"Triple 9" will be out in theaters in February 2016.
