Apple is reportedly planning to unveil the highly-anticipated 21.5-inch Retina iMac with a 4K display at a press event next week.

According to sources from 9to5Mac, some models of the new desktop computer could be available as early as Tuesday, Oct. 13. The Cupertino-based tech giant will then ship the mother-lode in November.

The 21.5-inch iMac has already been heavily tipped over the past few months.

It was first hinted on a beta version of OS X El Capitan in June. The beta's display code revealed that Apple's latest operating system for Mac can support 4096 x 2304 resolution, suggesting the company is working on an a large screen iMac to fit the particular display, as per Mac Rumors.

The code also referred to the Intel Iris Pro Graphics 6200 and AMD Radeon M380 - M395X discrete graphics. The former is an integrated graphics chipset that pairs with the latest generation of Intel's Broadwell processors while the latter might be featured on higher-ended iMac models.

The upcoming 21.5-inch iMac is said to feature the same external build of its recent predecessors while the majority of its improvements can be found internally. It promises enhanced display quality and greater color saturation. Given its support for 4K resolution, the new iMac, as well as its subsequent models, will be priced higher than Apple's current-generation desktop computers.

It can be remembered that the tech giant has launched a handful of 27-inch Retina iMac since Q4 2015. However, the rest of the iMac offerings have not been updated since Q4 2013. This is partly due to Apple's decision to wait until Intel released its latest Broadwell processors before allowing a substantial update to the iMac.

It is still uncertain though whether or not Apple will introduce updates to current generation iMac models alongside the unveiling of the 21.5-inch Retina iMac with a 4K display. Luckily, the tech giant's iMac release schedule over the last couple of years certainly points to that direction.

In the meantime, it has been reported that Apple has been hard at work on a next-generation Magic Mouse with support for Force Touch technology and a wireless Bluetooth keyboard with a rechargeable battery. Only time can tell though if these accessories will be showcased alongside the new iMac.

Regarding the iPad Pro, the 9to5Mac report has corroborated with a previous report from Japanese website Mac Otakara, which claims that the wide-screened tablet is expected to release in early November.
