iMac 2015 Rumors: Apple Expected to Announce Mid-Range 4K Desktop Computer Next Week
A new desktop is coming from Apple, and it will have an ultra-sharp display and mid-range features. The updated iMac could go on sale as early as next week and be widely available by November.
The new iMac will feature a 21.5-inch screen with 4K resolution, according to reports from 9to5 Mac.
9to5 Mac cited "multiple, reliable sources" when they made the announcement of the upcoming iMac on Tuesday.
Apple recently held a product announcement event at the end of September that focused on its new iPhones. A new, large-screened iPad Pro was also announced, along with an updated Apple TV set top box. At the event, desktop computers were not a focus, CNet reports.
Apple has managed to keep customers interested in their desktops by making slight, frequent updates. As technology improves, Apple updates the iMac desktops with newer features, like the 4K display coming to this upcoming model.
Besides the new iPhone 6s and iPhone 6s Plus, Apple fans were excited to learn about the new iPad Pro, a tablet with a 12.9-inch screen. On the software side, Apple recently announced the new operating system OS X El Capitan. Since El Capitan is a desktop operating system, the new desktop will be able to share some of the spotlight with the other new devices.
Microsoft has been active with some new products of their own. At a Windows 10 event Tuesday, the company introduced the Surface Book, a laptop that they say will be twice as fast as the MacBook Pro. Microsoft also announced two new smartphones, the Lumia 950 and Lumia 950 XL, which will run Windows 10 Mobile.
The new iMac will look pretty similar to previous models, but the 4K display will be the main selling point. The display on the 21.5-inch screen will offer a resolution of 4,096 x 2,304 pixels. This will provide great graphics for gaming, as well as photo and video editing.
