A small plane plunged into a mobile home park in Florida on Tuesday, setting two homes on fire and killing the pilot and a young woman.

National Transportation Safety Board investigator Dan Boggs announced at a news conference that the plane crashed about 5:30 p.m. Tuesday into a suburban Lake Worth park of a few dozen mobile homes, reports WPTV.

According to Boggs, the Piper Cherokee 180 took off from Orlando and was scheduled to land in Lantana.

"We're very fortunate it wasn't worse," he said.

The crash took the life of Domingo Galicia's 21-year-old daughter Banny, who was taking a nap inside their trailer home when the plane made a crash landing. He, on the other hand, was outside.

"It just pounded, like an explosion," said Clara Ingram, who lives in the trailer park, to The Associated Press. She added that looked out her door and saw "nothing but a big ball of fire."

Investigators are still looking into what caused the plane to go down at the Mar-Mak Colony Club, where many of the residents speak only Spanish.

According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue Capt. Albert Borroto, residents called 911 to report a low-flying aircraft. First responders arrived at the scene of the to find thick smoke rising in the air.

Stephanie Martin, 21, said Banny Galicia was her best friend whom she had known since middle school. She described the victim as a church-going student who attended Palm Beach State College and enjoyed Christian music.

"She was very caring and loving. She always knows how to make people laugh and smile, silly jokes," she said

"I keep picturing her coming but she doesn't show up. I want to have hope but there is none. I want to have faith but I lost it," she said while trying to cope with the grim reality that her friend was killed.
