'Die Hard 6' Plot: Sixth Installment of Action Series Coming, See Possible Cast & Storyline Here
Who ever doubted "Die Hard" will find a way to come back? A sixth installment is reportedly in the works with the team in place and a plotline that's unique from the rest of the series.
According to a report from The Hollywood Reporter, John McClane is rising up once more. The NYPD officer is going back to his roots for "Die Hard 6" as the upcoming film will be a prequel to the box-office hit series. It will follow the story of McClane as he starts out as a cop in 1979 and reveal how he turned out to be the action hero the world knows.
While Bruce Willis will be part of the project as McClane — of course, what is a "Die Hard" film without him? — reports say the team will be enlisting the talents of another actor to play the younger version of his character.
The unique blend of the old and new "Die Hard" will hopefully give back a jolt of life to the franchise, which critically bombed after the last installment "A Good Day to Die Hard." According to a report from Cinema Blend, only 10 percent of the critics in aggregate website Rotten Tomatoes gave the John Moore action film a passing score. It's the lowest score of the franchise so far, but many still hope a new one will revive one of the best action franchises in the industry.
Fans may be relieved that the team behind this upcoming "Die Hard 6" is one that's proven. "Live Free and Die Hard" director Len Wiseman is slated to come back and helm the project while Lorenzo di Bonaventura will produce.
"Live Free and Die Hard" was an acclaimed fourth installment of the "Die Hard" franchise, so the series is in good hands for the upcoming prequel. Wiseman has previously said that he's a big fan of the franchise and being part of the franchise is both fun and challenging.
"The biggest challenge I would say is that I kind of have two responsibilities, I thought," he explained to About Entertainment. "One is to direct the film, the other is to watch it as the fan that I am. So I'd always look at it that way as that's my biggest challenge when I'm in meetings. When I'm talking about the script, in every aspect of it, is this going to be the movie that I want to see because I'm only doing it because I'm a fan."
