WWE Rumors: Dean Ambrose Turning Heel at Survivor Series?
Dean Ambrose is rumored to be turning heel on his friend and former SHIELD brother Roman Reigns, per What Culture. The two are being shown on TV as extra friendly since Ambrose challenged Rollins for the WWE Title in June, which is the traditional way of setting up an angle involving both guys.
According to an earlier report of Bryan Alvarez of The Wrestling Observer, "The Lunatic Fringe" was supposed to be the guy who will be pushed in John Cena's absence. WWE live events that were headlined by Cena now features Ambrose, as reported by Wrestling Inc.
Bleacher Report also reported that it was the perfect time to elevate the Dean Ambrose character as fans were clearly behind him when they teased his win at the Elimination Chamber. Many fans compared his persona to that of an anti-hero, much like Brian Pillman and "Stone Cold" Steve Austin.
Inquisitr noted that on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw, Ambrose talking to Reigns in a very friendly manner, being supportive, wishing him luck and firing him up for the Fatal 4-Way main event, is a classic sign of a heel turn.
The report added that this would give Ambrose a better story for his character and a way to get him into the main event scene. Many smart fans have wanted him to be in the spotlight, whether in a face or heel role as he is very good in delivering promos.
With Reigns winning and becoming the No. 1 contender for the WWE title, he will be facing Seth Rollins at Survivor Series. The two are getting some of Cena's airtime throughout its build. If Ambrose ends up turning heel and starts feuding with Reigns, this could set up a WrestleMania 32 showdown between the former three members of the SHIELD.
In a separate report by What Culture, WWE is considering giving the title to Reigns at Survivor Series. There are speculations on why they would want to do such move. One speculation is that Rollins have been holding the belt for a very a long time, and due to failing ratings, it's time to move on to new stories.
There is also a backstage feeling that giving the belt to Roman at this stage will take away the pressure off him, rather than feel the wrath of the fans like he did last season at the Road to WrestleMania. The report adds that the WWE believes fans will have an easier time accepting him as the next face of the company if he already has the WWE championship.
