Becky G Cast as Yellow Power Ranger, Debuts New Song [Watch]
Becky G surprised fans on Friday by announcing that she will be playing the yellow power ranger in the upcoming "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" movie, based on the popular 1990s kids show.
The pop star made the announcement to her social media followers and posted the official image, released by Lionsgate Films, on her Instagram account.
"Excited to be a part of this. My first movie and I get to be a freakin POWER RANGER. Thank you to the amazing team for welcoming me and also thanks@lionsgatemovies," the singer captioned the photo.
The singer joins the four other previously announced rangers: RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), and Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The highly anticipated film is set to be directed by Dean Israelite, whose previous films includes "Project Almanac." While no specific release date has been announced, the film will premiere in 2017. Becky G may have teased the announcement a few days before on Tuesday, when she tweeted, "Today might change my life, excited."

This isn't the first role for the young star. She previously appeared on the Disney Channel series "Austin & Ally," where she appeared as herself, and most recently the Latina made television headlines when she guest starred as Valentina on the hit series "Empire" last month. The 18-year-old also made another announcement on Instagram that included new music. Becky G revealed the name of her new song is "You Love It," a slightly slower tune than her dance hit "Break A Sweat." "#BEASTERS check out my new song #YouLoveIt on @applemusic! Link in my bio," she captioned an image with the song title on it.
