‘Supernatural’ Season 11 Episode 5 Recap: Winchesters Seek Axe Murderer in 'Thin Lizzy'
On Wednesday's episode of "Supernatural," Dean (Jensen Ackles) and Sammy (Jared Padalecki) Winchester paid a visit to a Lizzie Borden-themed bed and breakfast.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the episode centered around the real life story of Borden, who allegedly killed her father and stepmother with an axe in the late 19th century, only to later be acquitted of the charges.
In Episode 5 of Season 11 of "Supernatural," titled "Thin Lizzy," the boys caught wind of an axe murder at the Lizzie Borden Bed & Breakfast hotel. This news seemed to really resonate with Sam, who has an infatuation with famous serial killers, and he immediately launched into geek mode. He was ready to head for Massachusetts to make heads or tails of the case.
However, the brothers met a hang-up. When they got to the B&B and checked into the deadly room, they soon found it had been rigged with spooky equipment to immitate the sounds of ghostly apparitions. It turned out the place was a tourist trap.
Naturally, the brothers were ready to wrap it up. That is, until the owner of the B&B turned up dead, blowing their disbelief right out the window.
Dean soon caught up with a photographer named Len, whom he saw sneaking around the B&B, learning that he has a restraining order against him for squatting in the B&B's basement. Dean then saw one of Len's drawings with the Mark of Cain on it. Len told him he had seen the sign on a 12-year-old girl named Amara.
At that point, the plot thickened, as a man was murdered in his driveway, while his child and babysitter were in the house.
As it turned out, Amara had eaten Len and the babysitter's souls, but it was the babysitter who committed the murders. Len would eventually cut the babysitter down with an axe to save everyone, but he was still soulless and decided to give himself up to police before he evolved into a similar homicidal maniac. Dean showed a strange affection for Len and refused to kill him.
One interesting thing to note is that Castiel decided not to join the boys on the case because he was binge watching "The Wire" and was only on Season 2.
