Chris Brown Paints Portrait of Slain Rapper Chinx as French Montana Birthday Gift
Chris Brown has painted a portrait of slain rapper Chinx that shows him standing side-by-side his friend and mentor French Montana.
BET reports the water color portrait was done as a birthday gift to French and displays the Queens rapper beaming with a halo over his head as a smiling Montana looks on with his famous neck tattoo in clear view.
Several media outlets have reported, Brown completed the portrait with the help of fellow artist Dee Cosey. He later posted pics of it on his Instagram page under the caption "Decosey and I did something special for my brother."
The 31-year-old rapper died in May after being ambushed in a drive-by shooting in his home borough. Born Lionel Pickens, authorities reported he suffered multiple gunshot wounds as his Porsche Panamera 4 traveled on Queens Blvd. and 84th Drive in Briarwood around 4 a.m.
Witnesses told police after opening fire the assailant sped off, leaving Chinx's friend and passenger Antar Alziadi, 27, also critically injured and nursing several gunshot wounds.
The rapper was a member of Montana's Coke Boys record label and was also well-known for several mixtapes he produced.
"It is with a heavy heart that the Legion Media Group and 4 Kings Management announce the passing of Lionel 'Chinx' Pickens this morning," an Instagram post by the Legion Media Group said. "Chinx's dedication, humor and vision will always be remembered."
Later, rap icon Jay Z spoke of Chinx during a Manhattan concert. "A young man got killed in Queens, his name is Chinx ... Rest in peace, Chinx," he said.
Montana's then-girlfriend Khloe Kardashian also fondly recalled the rapper, posting on her Instagram page, "We've only known each other a short time but it was the best time, full of memories that I will cherish forever! I miss you Chinxy."
