As part of an ongoing series on some of the brightest stars of the upcoming Miss America pageant, which airs Jun. 16, we take a look at Miss Arizona 2013, Rachel Massie.

Massie, a Glendale, Ariz. native, is high on many people's lists as a strong contender for the crown at this year's competition. What's truly remarkable about her win in this year's Miss Arizona contest is the fact that it was not only her first pageant, but it was her first time on stage as well. She attributes a carefree approach to her success.

"The best advice that I was given was don't go in it trying to win it, go out and just have fun and be yourself and apparently it just comes naturally," Massie recalled.

Massie, 20, attended Cactus High School in Glendale and now works as a model for the Ford/Robert Black Modeling Agency in Scottsdale. She is also a certified laser technician and hopes to one day be able to obtain a business degree so that she can open up her own spa facility.

Standing at 5'6" with a very toned frame, Massie easily bested the thousands of other entrants in this year's best body contest. With an award-winning smile, flowing black hair, and smoky brown eyes, there's no doubt that Massie has the physical attributes to take the title.

Massie enjoys running, biking Arizona's 30 mile green belt, mentoring children, and travelling. Though she does want to own her own business, Massie also is interested in getting involved in both education and medicine. She has already stated that if she wins the title, she will use her position to promote active play for children.

"Thanks to my upbringing, I am now independent, responsible, and goal oriented. This has led me to have a passion to serve others, pursue new experiences, and be a role model/mentor," says the newest Miss Arizona.
