'Into the Badlands' Season 1 Episode 2 Spoilers: MK Finds a Friend [Watch]
"Into the Badlands," a post-apocalyptic action series based around the tropes of classic Asian cinema, seeks to bring a sense of the past to its futuristic world.
A teaser for Episode 2 of Season 1, titled “Fist Like a Bullet,” shows M.K. (Aramis Knight), an average teenage boy who happens to hold secret powers, running into a girl who offers him advice and then some much needed safety.
After successfully stalking a squirrel, the girl takes M.K. by surprise with a butterfly-shaped weapon. After he explains himself to her and she loosens up, M.K. compliments her quick moves.
The girl says her swiftness is all due to practice. “Mother says natural ability is no substitute for hard work,” she explains.
When M.K. hears hunting dogs coming his way he is about to take off, but gets invited to come back with her.
"Into the Badlands," is centered around the trials of a warrior (Daniel Wu) and a young boy (Knight) who journey through a dangerous feudal land together in search of enlightenment.
According to the show creators, Al Gough and Miles Millar, the goal of the series was to create a futuristic program that would have an ancient feel.
Speaking to Indiewire Miller said, “We didn't want to do a contemporary show, which is always; Chinese cop comes to New York, teams up with racist cop, together they fight crime...”
Gough explains that the show was set in a world that has experienced a major catastrophic event. After a long dark age, a medieval type of civilization has emerged. “It's a feudal world,” said Gough, “a part feudal barons and part warlord and part mob boss and they each control a huge resource so that there's an uneasy alliance, but they all need each other.”
The next episode of “Into the Badlands," airs Sunday, Nov. 22 at 10/9c on AMC.
