Real Madrid Football and Soccer Transfer Rumors: Arsenal Interested In Acquiring Iker Casillas, Says Santi Cazorla
Arsenal midfielder Santi Cazorla revealed that the Gunners are interested in acquiring Real Madrid goalkeeper Iker Casillas, who is facing an uncertain future at Bernabéu.
Cazorla revealed in a recent interview with Sport360 that Arsenal have Casillas on top of their list as the team continues to search for a goalkeeper, who could possibly take Wojciech SzczÄsny's spot.
Cazorla revealed that he has already talked to Casillas about Arsenal's interest, but the 29-year-old midfielder revealed that he is still unsure whether or not his fellow Spain international is interested in making a move to the Premier League this summer.
"I've told him [I would like him to join Arsenal], but so far he has just been curious about my experience in England. His situation is very complicated, but he has to make a decision," Cazorla said.
Casillas is currently in an unfamiliar situation this season as he has yet to start in a single league game under coach Carlo Ancelotti.
The 32-year-old keeper lost his starting spot last season under Jose Mourinho, and has never regained his old place as Diego López continues to impress the team's top brass.
The uncertainty about Casillas' future with Real Madrid is convincing top-tier European teams that Los Blancos might consider moving Casillas this summer.
Aside from Arsenal, Manchester City are also reportedly interested in Casillas but Cazorla added, though, that he can't see his Spain national squad teammate moving out of the Bernabéu anytime soon.
"Lots of clubs want him, including Arsenal, but I think that it would be very difficult to leave Real Madrid because of what the club represents," Cazorla said. "He knows what he has [at Madrid] and what he could find at another club."
Casillas previously said that he is unsure whether or not he will still be with Real Madrid in the remaining years of his playing career, but he strongly expressed desire to stay with the team wherein he has spent his entire career.
"Many people are speculating about my situation," Casillas said. "It's not the same as it has been in recent years. Every day rumors appear and whilst these stories appear, I belong to Real Madrid, which is the club of my life. I want to stay here."
