California Serial Killer Charged With 4 More Murders, Bringing Total Number of Victims to 7
A suspected California serial killer is facing new charges in four other murders, bringing the total number of his victims to seven.
According to Crime Online, Wesley Brownlee, 43, was already charged with three killings in Stockton. The suspected California serial killer was arrested on October 15 while allegedly "out hunting" another victim.
Brownlee was previously charged with the killings of Juan Cruz, Jonathan Hernandez, and Lawrence Lopez Sr., which happened between August 30 and September 27.
The San Joaquin County District Attorney's Office said the suspected serial killer has also been charged with the murders of Stockton residents Paul Yaw and Salvador Debudey Jr., Juan Alexander Vasquez of Oakland, and newly identified victim in Alameda County Mervin Harmon.
Brownlee was also charged with attempted murder for the shooting of Natasha LaTour, who managed to survive.
California Serial Killer First Six Victims
According to reports, Wesley Brownlee's first victim was Juan Vasquez Serrano, who was killed in Oakland on April 10, 2021, followed by Natasha LaTour, who was shot in Stockton on April 16 of the same year but survived.
LaTour, a homeless woman, said she was sleeping in a tent and woke up to see Brownlee with a gun outside.
"There were no words exchanged... Didn't come any closer. Didn't say anything. Just started shooting. I saw, I saw flashes," LaTour previously told 209 Times.
The subsequent killings reportedly all happened in Stockton this year. The victims were Paul Yaw, who was killed on July 8; Salvador Debudey Jr., who was killed on August 11; Jonathan Hernandez, who was killed on August 30; Juan Cruz, who was killed on September 21; and Lawrence Lopez Sr., who was murdered on September 27.
According to NPR, some victims were identified as homeless. Investigators linked several of the shootings and identified Brownlee as a person of interest.
Mervin Harmon was reportedly killed on the same day LaTour was shot. Authorities said Brownlee also has a prior criminal record.
California Serial Killer Arrested Before Committing Another Murder
Wesley Brownlee was arrested last October after police surveillance teams followed him while he was driving, and stopped in the area of Village Green Drive and Winslow Avenue.
Police reportedly "watched his patterns" and then determined that he was out hunting and was on a mission to kill another person before police arrested him.
Stockton Police Department Chief Stanley McFadden previously said that the police surveillance team saw that he was exhibiting "threatening behavior" before they sprang to action and arrested him.
He noted that the suspected California serial killer was going to parks and dark places and stopping and looking around before driving on again.
"As officers made contact with him, he was wearing dark clothing and a mask around his neck. He was also armed with a firearm when he was taken into custody," McFadden said. "We are sure we stopped another killing."
