It looks like the NBA title-contending Chicago Bulls have their sights set on one of the deadliest shooters in league history.

According to multiple sources, the Bulls have reached out to shooting guard Ray Allen.

Allen is the all-time NBA leader in three-pointers made in the regular season and postseason. Up until two seasons ago, he held the NBA record for most three-point shots made in a single season, until Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry passed him. No player in NBA history has hit the perimeter shot better and more frequently than this man.

After 18 seasons with the Milwaukee Bucks, Boston Celtics, Seattle SuperSonics (remember them?) and Miami Heat, Allen is currently a free agent.

The 39-year-old veteran is free to go wherever he wants. The Bulls have had a busy off-season, trading away Carlos Boozer and adding power forward Pau Gasol. The team made a huge effort to sign Carmelo Anthony, but he chose to remain with the New York Knicks. Adding Allen would certainly help an anemic Bulls offense that ranked dead last in the league last season with 93.7 points per game. Even if Allen isn't very good in the paint area, his long range skills can help the Bulls to a small degree.

Joining the Bulls could be a good decision for Allen because he will get a lot of shots, but it still has a lot of risks. Point guard Derrick Rose has played just 49 games the last three seasons, providing little confidence for the future. It's a weak Eastern Conference, as Allen well knows, but joining the Bulls doesn't guarantee anything.

If Allen is comfortable with playing less minutes and playing on a more superior roster, then the Spurs are his best choice.

The Spurs have won the Western Conference the last two seasons, including last year's NBA Finals against the Miami Heat, who Allen played for. Head coach Greg Popovich runs the most effective system in the league with Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili and Tim Duncan leading the way. An older player like Allen would fit in just perfect. Last season, the Spurs had the highest three-point percentage in the entire NBA.

The Los Angeles Clippers have also expressed interest in Allen. The Clippers would be a great choice if Allen wants a lot of shots on a high-powered offense. If Allen were younger, this would be the best choice. Despite playing more than 70 games the last two years, Allen has only started nine games during that span. The Spurs can offer Allen a lot more bench time resting minutes than the Clippers can because of their superior defense.

Allen, even at his age, can still light up opposing defenses from the perimeter. The Bulls are making the correct decision by trying to acquire Allen. Allen has hit more than 100 three-point shots in 17 of his 18 seasons and he's still a fantastic free throw shooter. Choosing the Bulls would be a big risk because of Rose's health, but the Eastern Conference is weak. The Bulls will probably be able to offer Rose more money as well.

At this point, it's up to Allen. Does the veteran shooting guard want more shots, easy competition or another championship opportunity? Recent history tells us he wants to win a third ring. Allen joined Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce in Boston to get his first ring, and would later join LeBron James, Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade in Miami to win his second world title.

Allen could choose to retire, and why not? He's accomplished almost everything an NBA player could dream of. Playing in this league requires a lot of traveling and dedication, things that Allen may want to move on from. Either way, there's no doubt: Allen is a future Hall of Famer.
