Donald Trump Campaign News Update: GOP Supporters Believe Obama Is Muslim
Much of Donald Trump's support, during his run for the White House, comes from a sector of the population that still suspects President Barack Obama is Muslim and is in favor of outlawing birthright citizenship (63 percent) for all those born here in the states.
The Public Policy Polling survey released this week also found 61 percent of Trump's supporters believe Obama was born outside of the U.S., and 63 percent would go as far as changing the Constitution in order to obliterate birthright citizenship.
Overall, 54 percent of Republicans polled indicated they believe the president is a Muslim, compared to just 12 percent who have apparently taken him at his word in expressing that he is of Christian faith.
Despite it all, the real estate mogul continues to lead all his Republican rivals by a wide-margin among likely 2016 voters, garnering 29 percent of the vote in recent polls compared to retired surgeon Ben Carson, at 15 percent. Fellow Republican presidential favorite Jeb Bush clocks in third with just nine percent of the vote.
As the boisterous, feisty crowds he has been gathering at most of his political rallies and outings suggest, Trump seemingly can do no wrong among his most ardent supporters. As many as 80 percent of all respondents now proclaim they dislike Fox News anchor Megyn Kelly in the wake of her running feud with Trump.
Data shows Trump supporters also overwhelmingly trust him over Fox News in general, with one member of a recent focus group convened by Business Insider adding, "The media and the establishment are deathly afraid of Trump. That's why I particularly love him. Because the media has become de facto the power behind the throne in this country."
Still another panelist weighed in, "Every time the media thinks it's got a 'gotcha,' he turns it around on them."
